Wiki implementation - practical experience (Part 2)

In the previous post I mentioned our team decided to use MediaWiki. The set-up and implementation itself was quite OK. Mainly thanks to detailed documentation. We made few changes to the layout of articles, but nothing serious. Much more challenging was to redesign whole wiki, since we needed more attractive design than basic MediaWiki offers - and this is basically what this post is going to be about.
If you want to offer online service to young people (high-school students) the design of this web page must not only be practical but also nice and interesting. Unfortunately the basic layout of MediaWiki is rather spartan. That is why we made some profound changes - there are some webpages who uses MediaWiki with slightly different design/skin:
There are also lots of MediaWiki skins available directly from the MediaWiki.org page. After some development we managed to reskin our installation of MediaWiki and here you can see the result:
